Looks like FW plans to try it again!

The City Council meeting for the City of Federal Way- September 4, 2007

Tracey and I attended the meeting this evening and here is the update.

City Manager (Neal Beets) Emerging Issues: Annexation Update

The report was real simple and short. Neal Beets stated, ‘we are awaiting additional information from King County Elections and will be getting precinct data to determine how the residents in the PAA voted. We plan to form focus groups in the PAA to gain a better understanding of the issues on the minds of the voters as they went to the polls.’

That sounds a lot like intention to pursue annexation to me. If they were not planning on putting it on the ballot in the future, why spend the money on ‘Focus Groups”?

They plan on putting it back on the ballot. It is just a matter of when, not if.

Be alert to any news or meetings planned for your area. We need to be there.

Respectfully,

Jerry Galland

Why, do you think, is Federal Way so eager to try to annex these unincorporated areas? They earlier said that counties were being pressured (from the state?) to get unincorporated areas incorporated into the local cities. Does anyone know if this is true? I believe that the ONLY reason FW is trying to do this is to raise their city revenue. I was told by a FW city official that FW operates on a balanced budget and I find that hard to believe. I believe that they are strapped for cash and are desperate to add us as a source for their spending. What would be added to our unincorporated area as a benefit to increased taxes? I asked a FW city official if we would get street lights if we became a part of FW and they said "NO". It would be have to be petitioned by the neighborhood and paid for by the residents (no different than now). Any insight on these issues?
